From Ivester Contemporary:
“Ivester Contemporary is proud to present “Odds and Ends Odyssey,” a solo exhibition featuring new work by artist Calder Kamin. Known for her intricate sculptures crafted from recycled trash, Kamin invites viewers on a nocturnal journey through a world where discarded materials are transformed into beautiful inner demons and imaginary friends. “‘Odds and Ends Odyssey’ embodies the evolution of grief and a voyage of self-discovery,” says Calder Kamin. “Art has always been my way to escape, and now, it’s my way to explore and express complex emotions and concepts.” At the heart of the exhibition, Kamin has created a plush twelve-foot-long Pegasus designed for visitors to lay on. One of the creature’s 10-foot quilted wings is made from hand-sewn feathers made in collaboration with populations healing from addiction, grief, or illness, and seniors. Each feather contains a dream or wish for their future. During this exhibition’s five week long run, Kamin will extend this collaborative spirit by inviting Austin based crafters, makers, quilters, and the curious to make a feathers for the second wing of the Pegasus.
Artist, educator and advocate, Calder Kamin, transforms trash into beautifully crafted creatures and opportunities to inspire others to be creative and courageous about the future. Kamin’s recycled art and public workshops have traveled to museums across the states including The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, The American Museum of Natural History, The Wolf Museum of Exploration and Innovation, The DoSeum, the Contemporary Austin, and Women & Their Work. She has recently appeared on a segment of Craft in America and is preparing for her first permanent commission for Austin Art in Public Places. Kamin holds a double Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute”
