His artwork serves as a tribute to the warmth, purity, and authenticity he encountered during his travels, weaving together narratives of resilience, spirituality, and human connection.
As a seasoned artist with over three decades of experience, Galloway’s work is rooted in a profound exploration of identity, spirituality, and the human experience. “I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to share my series ‘Oaxaca’ with the community of Lockhart,” says Douglas Galloway. “This exhibition is a deeply personal expression of my experiences in Oaxaca and a celebration of the beauty and authenticity I encountered there. From the dedicated craftsmanship of mezcaleros to the soulful expression of local artists, I was struck by the deep bond between people, land, and nature. One story, in particular, resonated deeply as it hit very close to home – the essential role of bats from San Antonio in pollinating agave, integral to the creation of mezcal. Being from San Antonio, it serves as a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of all life and the divine presence that binds us together. As we immerse ourselves in this exhibition, let us embrace the beauty of our shared humanity and the sacredness of our connection to the world around us.”
The open house on April 5 will provide an opportunity for art enthusiasts to engage with Douglas Galloway, learn about his creative process, and experience the magic of “Oaxaca: A Love Letter” firsthand. The exhibition will be on display until April 30th.

About Douglas Galloway:
Galloway’s collections of abstract, encaustic, mixed media paintings take root in the dry, parched soil of the Pecos Valley and extends eastward to the canvas of the Creole south. His works invite the viewer to glimpse into his experiences in spirituality and the people that have shaped his journey as it is defined through paper and paint. They are enveloped in beeswax that, like his life, yields a spectral opaque dimension, encaustic by nature and abstract in presentation; as he reveals his love of family, his influence by place, and the strength of his determination to explore and document through art.
