From the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum:
“The City of San Benito’s Cultural Arts Department (CAD) is thrilled to present Nova Aurora a solo exhibition by RGV artist, Veronica Jaeger. The Venezuelan-born painter and sculptor is known for her distinct visual storytelling style. This colorful and whimsical exhibition, on display at the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum, explores the terrestrial and transcendental through folk stories, fairy tales, allegories, and symbolism. The playful scenarios created in oil paintings, drawings, and installations invite the viewer to connect with the work.
Veronica Jaeger shares that “concepts like the soul and the divine feminine, as well as traditional tales and myths, have fascinated me since childhood and have served as inspiration for my work”. Her images push past the surface and take the viewer on a journey through an enchanted landscape comprised of light and dark, warm and cool scenes linking a connection between sensation and spectacle. CAD Director, Aleida Garcia, shares that “Veronica’s characters peer out into the audience, with penetrating gazes, breaking that fourth wall and inviting you to traverse the magical and the surreal”.
The opening reception for Nova Aurora is on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum. The exhibition will run through May 3, 2024. The museum is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Guided tours and in-person access are available throughout the exhibit dates, and Virtual programs, such as video presentations, interviews, and virtual tours will be available through CAD’s social media platforms.”
