From Houston Christian University:
“Produced in his artist studio during the Covid 19 Global Pandemic, this most recent collection of artworks by Houston-based artist Jack Gron, exhibits sculptures and paintings made from steel, wood, and colored acrylic Plexi-glass forms. During my meetings with Jack and selecting works for his exhibition at Houston Christian University, I was witness to his artistic process for how he constructs his works into forms where figuration and abstraction are combined. In “Portal,” Gron welds painted steel abstract forms onto a steel circular hoop. These painted forms are arrangenged in a way that generates a dance of movement and rhythms found in nature.
Jack Gron’s paintings are colorful abstractions painted on steel and collaged with acrylic Plexi- glass forms fabricated from multi-colored sheets, giving way to gestural, expressive and textural
applications. These quasi-abstract improvisations are seen in Gron’s painting “Firestorm,” where he has energized the surface of the steel panel with high key colors fields and expressive applications of white, cobalt, and yellow cadmiums, multilayered as to atmospheric spaces and human emotions. What I find appealing about these artworks is their openness and the handling of the materials. Jack Gron’s artwork is open for individual interpretation and connection. These are paintings and sculptures that demand more than one viewing.
