From La Mecha Contemporary:
“Katrina Laine worked as a commercial graphic designer for over 10 years before moving into the conceptual realm and beginning to explore the connections between the commercialization of graphic design and the perception of identity on a personal or social level. Laine’s artistic practice is a dynamic exploration of identity, heavily influenced by her professional background in graphic design. “I delve into the intriguing intersections between personal identity and the branding strategies employed by commercial entities, drawing parallels between how people and generations construct themselves in a world heavily influenced by consumer culture.” Laine’s work dissects the ever-evolving societal narratives across generations, shedding light on their profound impact on our collective worldview. She critically engages with and initiates dialogues surrounding the complexities of mental and physical health, the resilience and manipulation of women navigating and/or profiting from a male-dominated society. This body of work highlights the enduring legacy of the 90s culture, unearthing its lasting effects on our lives and psyches. “Through my art, I invite viewers to reflect, question, and challenge the constructs that shape our understanding of self and society.” Laine received her BA in Graphic Design from New Mexico State University in 2016 and her MFA with an emphasis in digital art and installation from New Mexico State University in 2022. Laine has two children and lives in Las Cruces, NM. Laine has exhibited nationally and regionally and is currently the Creative Director for NMCO Creative Studios and the former chair and current Las Cruces City Art Board member. “
