From PrintHouston:
“PrintHouston’s popular biennial Rockin’ Rollin’ Prints is back and will be held, for the first time, November 12, 2023, 10am – 4pm at The Orange Show, 2401 Munger, Houston TX, 77023. This year’s theme is “CONNECTIONS.”
This much-anticipated event will feature approximately fifty artists from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New York, and London! Each artist will bring a carved 3’ x 5’ woodblock which will be inked and printed using a 2-ton steamroller as a printing press. This fun event shows the process of creating a hand pulled print. Our first ever 10’ long print, by Preston Gaines, will be printed and auctioned off during the event. Preston is an artist, architect, and industrial designer represented by Barbara Davis Gallery, Houston, Texas. All proceeds will be donated to PrintHouston! Thank You!!!
PrintHouston’s first From Press to Table print fair will also be held on Sunday, November 12th at The Orange Show in tandem with our Rockin’ Rollin’ Prints event. From 10 am to 4pm our juried selection of printmakers will be showcasing their prints for sale, ranging from works on paper to hand-printed shirts. Kids will have their own space and inked up board to ride bikes and skateboards over to create monotypes.
Rockin’ Rollin’ Prints began in 2011 and afterward, for several years, held at St. Arnold’s Brewery. In 2021 it moved to the Printing Museum and now in 2023, it is presented at the ever- popular Orange Show! The event always draws enthusiastic attendance.
The Rockin’ Rollin’ Prints event is free and open to the public. Sponsors include The Orange Show, The Hollowell Family Foundation, and Art Supply on Almeda.
PrintHouston was formed in 2009 to support printmakers. PrintHouston 2011 was the first citywide celebration of original prints throughout the Houston area. Museums, non-profit spaces, galleries, and alternative spaces joined in the celebration, presenting exhibitions, workshops, and special events open to the public. In 2017 PrintHouston became a biennial event. The organization sponsors NEXT, a national, juried, biennial competition that includes artists from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. They also sponsor Rockin’ Rollin’ Prints, during which a two-ton steamroller is used to print three-by-five-foot woodcuts by 50 Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana artists.
The mission of PrintHouston is to promote traditional and nontraditional printmaking, encourage print collecting, and further the professional growth of members through citywide outreach, public art functions, and annual member exhibitions. There are three levels of membership: artist, general, and student. Artist members are established artists from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. To become an artist member, artists apply and are juried into the organization by the PrintHouston board. PrintHouston became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in 2015.
