November 17 - January 6, 2024
From the Nave Museum:
“The Nave Museum will present an exhibition of works by glass artist Jayne Duryea from November 17th through January 6th, 2024. The exhibit, titled “Gardens & Glass: Highlights from The Duryea Museum & The Duryea Gallery’s Artist-in-Residence Program” will showcase select pieces of blown glass and other mixed media works made by herself and select student artists from throughout Duryea’s extensive history of working with and teaching glass art creation at Coastal Bend College and her own private studio in Beeville. Of her glass works, which she studied and perfected at the ARS Murano Glass Factory in Murano, Italy, she says glass (as a medium) is “that three-dimensional expression of my need for exploration to complete the cycle of creativity” as glass is “a natural choice, for it is extremely alive and fluid… it influencing me as I influence it- until the collaboration is complete.” Of her painted pieces, she says the creation of each has “become a kind of meditation on sensuality, sorrow, loss, and self-discovery,” which she does, “because I can, because I need to, for me.” Additional details about Duryea, the Duryea Museum, and the Duryea Gallery’s Artist-in-Residence Program can be found on the Nave Museum website at www.navemuseum.org.
