May 26 - July 22, 2023
From Art Center Waco:
“Art Center Waco is pleased to present an introspective two-person exhibition, “Of Warm Impermanence,” featuring visual artists Ty Nathan Clark and Vy Ngo. The exhibition will open on May 26th and remain on view through July 22nd. An opening reception will be held on May 26th from 6pm until 8pm.
Through paintings, sculptures, and installation works, the exhibition explores complex and universal themes of trauma, heartache, healing, and triumph, drawing from each artist’s personal experiences. Both artists use many layers of various mediums, vibrant colors, and organic shapes to create pieces that are highly emotive and show the power of resilience and hope in the face of adversity and deep-seated scars. Long-time friends, Ngo and Clark found synchronicity in their creative process and played with memories, music, poetry, and human connection to inform their work.
Their abstract expression of self-reflection provides a unique opportunity for viewers to connect with themselves, be present, and feel comforted in the understanding that we are all interconnected like ripples in the stream of life, riding the waves of healing. With Ngo displaying internal discoveries through an exciting fusion of movement and flow, and Clark’s work illustrating the search for balance amongst the chaos through the construction and deconstruction of his materials, both artists visualize the search to find beauty in the suffering and the fleeting nature of time.
Vy Ngo, born to refugee parents in rural Pennsylvania, draws influences from her life as a Vietnamese-American, a physician, a mother, and an activist. Her prolific and dedicated studio practice has expanded from painting to 3-D sculptural paintings and site-specific installation work. Her work has been acquired by private and public permanent collections, such as Austin City Hall and Texas A&M Multicultural Center and has drawn attention from various publications and media, such as Tribeza, Austin Woman, and PBS Arts in Context.
Ty Nathan Clark has been creating in multiple genres since he was four years old, and his passion for the arts was impacted by his uncle, Conway “Jiggs” Pierson, the world-renowned sculptor and Raku artist, at an early age. He has studied under renowned artists, including American sculptor William Catling and renowned Japanese American abstract painter Makoto Fujimura. He has spearheaded collaborations with other artists, organizations, and communities around the world for the past two decades and has shown from the Goss Michael Gallery to the Delaware Contemporary Museum. His work is represented in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Austin, Las Vegas, and New York.
The “Of Warm Impermanence” exhibition promises to be a moving and memorable experience for art lovers and enthusiasts. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to explore the works of two remarkable artists. The exhibition will run from May 26th to July 22nd, 2023, at Art Center Waco and will be co-curated by Dr. Jane Damron and Morgan Eyring.”
