August 13 - 31, 2022
From the organizers:
“The U.S./Mexico border is a guardian for a clash of social, political and cultural struggles. It strengthens our families, our traditions, and invigorates us to communicate issues that affect our communities.
Desde La Frontera is an exhibition that focuses on issues around violence, body and mental health issues, a rascuache aesthetic, happiness, cultural roots, heritage and love, what defines a person, and how the bridge is a connector for working class people building their economy on both sides of the border.
The exhibition features artwork by artists that represent three different border cities. From Brownsville, mixed media works by Jessie Burciaga, paintings by Josie Del Castillo, sculptures by Julian Rodriguez, and cyanotype collages by Cecilia Sierra; from Laredo, media work by Maritza Bautista, assemblages by Gil Rocha, and Sandra Gonzalez with paintings; and, from Presidio, sculptures and assemblages by Andrei Renteria.”
