June 4 - August 20, 2022
From Barry Whistler Gallery:
“Barry Whistler Gallery is pleased to present Learning to Draw opening June 4, 2022, with an opening reception from 1-4 pm. This exhibition will feature over 40 artists who explore a wide range of approaches and materials in their practice of drawing.
Most of us became familiar with drawing as children. Drawing is often the first step towards communication and storytelling. For artists, drawings can be the beginning of a larger idea.
Artist Bob Wilhite uses drawing to bring his concepts to life. Whether a sketch of a chair, flatware or a sculpture, he starts with the pencil and a piece of paper.
Artist Matt Kleberg uses his small scale drawings of architectural shapes as studies for his large scale paintings. The drawings made with oil sticks hold an equal amount of power as they do in large scale oil on canvas.
Claes Oldenberg’s loose and quick sketches are familiar in content and hand. His style is immediately recognizable even as simple as a cup of coffee and a donut.
Artist Peter Ligon visits old Dallas haunts and draws en plein aire. With ease he documents what is and what was.The viewer can follow his line with their eye and it may trigger memories”
