April 9 - 10, 2022
From the organizers:
“Art brut en plein air” translated as ‘raw art in the open air” presents the work of Paul Darmafall and Richard Gordon Kendall. Outsider artists are commonly thought to create in isolation, often out of public view. They live and create in a private realm. However, there are also outsiders who, either by choice or necessity, work outdoors in the public space. While still far removed from the art world and conventional society, they create within its view. Paul Darmafall created his glittering broken glass “roadside signs” along a busy Baltimore thoroughfare. Richard Gordon Kendal, homeless in Houston, drew the downtown architecture that surrounded his on the streets. This exhibition highlights how each artist found a spark of genius being outdoors, but alone.
