January 22 - February 24, 2022
From Cerulean Gallery:
“Cerulean Gallery is pleased to announce the opening reception for Donald Robertson’s (a.k.a. Drawbertson) exhibition and book launch titled Alcohol a Love Story on Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 6 – 9 PM. The artist will be in attendance at the reception to sign books and mingle with attendees. Original artwork from his new book, Alcohol A Love Story, will be for sale as well as additional new artworks. A portion of the evening’s sales will benefit Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center. The exhibition will run through February 24, 2022. Expect to see Donald completely transform Cerulean Gallery with his latest artwork and signature “Painted Lips” wallpaper. He will be taking over the Gallery’s window display with his colored gaffer tape and adorning the floor space with his whimsical sculptures. This will be a once-in-a-life-time cocktail soiree to meet the new Dallasite. “Alcohol a Love Story” is a collection of painted flashbacks. Fond memories of my interactions with alcohol. From the earliest days of pouring altar boy wine in the seventies, to my very recent introduction to a drink called Ranch Water after a relocation to Dallas. It’s all in here. Half painted, half alphabetical musings, the book is a testament to ‘don’t think, just paint’. The one exception to this rule is my son who recently became a pool boy after college. He mentioned to me that an Arnold Palmer with booze is called a John Daly! I painted this immediately. It’s under J for John Daly. I
am thrilled to be exhibiting all the original artwork from my new book at Cerulean Gallery around the corner from my house. There is no boozier town than Highland Park! The perfect backdrop for an artistic excuse to all get together and raise our glasses! Cheers.” – Donald
Donald Robertson, or Drawbertson as he is better known on Instagram, is a prolific illustrator and pop artist whose work spans both industries and media. Whether he is painting walnuts or Birkins, you can always spot a piece of his infamous art and style. His exciting career in fashion ultimately drew the attention of Estée Lauder Companies, prompting the beginning of his career in the beauty industry. Although Robertson has been a longtime creative fixture, his Instagram social media presence is what propelled him, and his zeitgeist works, to international fame. Since starting his Instagram in 2012, Robertson has amassed over 200k followers and has been compared to the likes of Andy Warhol. In 2017, prestige and luxury publisher, Assouline, published Donald’s large body of work as well as including his loyal and high profile fans and their quotes, which became a best-seller for Assouline. The book was launched at Bergdorf Goodman with a packed house of fans, hosted by Linda Fargo. Robertson has also collaborated with fashion designers in Ready-To-Wear collections which have included Giles Deacon, Jenna Lyons for J. Crew, Alice and Olivia, Veronica Beard, noted floral and fragrance creator, Eric Buterbaugh, luxury bag brand, Mark Cross and with toy company Mattel, where he re-designed the Barbie Style Guide as well as art events with the (now closed) legendary retail emporium, Colette in Paris.
