From San Jacinto Central Campus Art Gallery Building:
“Through mining the academic institutions Art & Design Department, the curator sourced discarded and obsolete items creating an exhibition viewed thought the lens of art history. Decades old slide film routinely supplied by book publishers, a vintage 1960’s slide cabinet and a mock dark room challenge viewers to contemplate ideas related to permanency, the passing of time, and antiquated means of disseminating information. In some instances, multiple slide projectors have been deconstructed to create abstract patterns on the wall invoking possibility through upcycling while reminding us of the repercussions excessive waste has on our environment. Viewers will have the opportunity to critically consider the advent of technology and its consequences and how the history of art becomes inadvertently complicit through its own means and processes. The interactive exhibition will hopefully result in meaningful conversations about the life cycle of machines, products, artifacts, the value of art historical record and the promise of a sustainable future.”
