September 10 - October 22, 2021
From the Cedars Union:
“The Cedars Union, a nonprofit art incubator, opens Whereabouts, its second exhibition in its 200 square foot pop-up space S14. The show explores the ways in which people connect to places with artworks that bring together nature, culture, and history, highlighting how environment actively shapes identity. Accompanying members’ work is an interactive piece inviting visitors to tell their own place-based story through the use of maps and stickers. The color-coded stickers, attached to questions such as “Where are you from?” and “Where do you miss?” allow the viewer to add their life’s journey to the exhibition.
S14 is located within The Cedars Union Studio Hall in the studio formerly filled by Cohort 2 member Michelle Inez Hinojosa who left the incubator program early to pursue her MFA at University of Michigan. Between July and December of 2021 three shows will be installed in the space, each featuring member artwork and curated by a member-led curatorial committee.
This exhibition was curated by Cedars Union members Laura J. Lawson, Catherine Cornelius, Lisa Horlander, and Brantly Sheffield. Participating artists include:
