From Texas State Galleries:
“Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, many of us feel as though our lives are on hold. We are stuck, suspended, waiting for our world to ‘go back to normal.’
Polymorpha is an immersive, time-based installation on view in the Texas State Galleries FLEX space. Filling the gallery, are several hundred helium-filled reflective balloons, each one suspending a single leaf. Over the course of the exhibition the balloons will slowly dance, sway, and, eventually, descend. Viewers are encouraged to move throughout the space—to peer at their reflections within each balloon and to observe how their physical presence impacts the installation and how the installation, in turn, impacts them. In so doing, viewers are invited to see the leaves much like themselves, momentarily adrift and isolated, waiting on time to bring about their destiny.
Visitors are also invited to interact with Polymorpha via Instagram Live @polymorpha.txst.”
