December 12 - January 18, 2021
From Discovery Green:
“As an art installation, Monuments consists of projections onto five living trees of slow-motion closeup videos of unsung Houston heroes filmed by internationally recognized Australian artist Craig Walsh, who has pioneered site-responsive projections in public spaces.
Houstonians were invited to nominate people who exemplify the ideal of serving others. A committee of community leaders then reviewed and selected five people from the public nominations to be included in Monuments by Craig Walsh. Another five people were selected to be recognized as unsung Heroes
The honorees represent the diversity of Houston, coming from a wide range of backgrounds and making an impact in areas from medicine, social services, disaster relief and more. Their inspiring stories will be told in a display in the park at Discovery Green, on www.discoverygreen.com and through the park’s social media channels.
Monuments by Craig Walsh will be on view daily from dusk to 10 p.m. December 12 through Jan. 18, 2021. Admission is free. Visitors are invited to share their experiences using the hashtags #monuments and #discoverygreen. More information is available at www.discoverygreen.com/monuments.”
