April 30 - May 10, 2020
Featuring works by Elyse Andrews, Raquel Belden, Quinn Bender, Gage Brown, Ariel del Vecchio, Layna Hayes, Alexus Jimenez, Dinda Lehrmann, Catherine Phillips, Kristina Reinis, and Kate Warford
Trinity University’s Neidorff Art Gallery is pleased to present Show & Tell featuring works by Elyse Andrews, Raquel Belden, Quinn Bender, Gage Brown, Ariel del Vecchio, Layna Hayes, Alexus Jimenez, Dinda Lehrmann, Catherine Phillips, Kristina Reinis, and Katie Warford. This exhibition marks the culmination of eleven studio art majors’ undergraduate studies at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Each artist has invested countless hours in creating artwork for Show & Tell that demonstrates their artistic development over the past four years. The final product is a diverse collection of works in painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media that focus on a range of concerns from aesthetics, to reflections on inherited family traditions, to thoughtful considerations on grief or our modern visual culture.
Viewers are invited to participate in what will be Trinity University’s first virtual reality Senior Art Exhibition. Student artwork will be photographed and displayed in a VR space modeled after Trinity’s own Neidorff Art Gallery, in which viewers will be able to navigate the show at their desired pace beginning at 5pm on April 30th. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue in both physical and virtual form, as well as a website with photos of the students’ work.
In the practice of show and tell, familiar to all schoolchildren, participants choose something meaningful, interesting, or important to present to the entire class. They stand up before their classmates and teacher to show off what they brought and explain why they chose to share it. In Show & Tell, these eleven artists approach their senior capstone with the same spirit of this memorable school tradition by presenting a variety of objects incorporating diverse materials such as photo developer, dirt, gold leaf, yarn, cardboard, and magazine clippings that uniquely connect the artists to their experiences. The work in this exhibition reveals each artist’s desire to invite the viewer in and start a dialogue by showing and telling their unique histories and perspectives in their own artistic voices.
