February 7 - March 1, 2020
Commerce Gallery, Downtown Lockhart’s contemporary art gallery, announces a new exhibition from Texas artist Felice House. House’s series — entitled Face West — features oil paintings and drawings exploring the tension between heroic archetypes and gender. Offering both a reflection and critique of Hollywood Westerns, the audacious series places contemporary women into heroic roles and views the mythical American West through a postmodern lens. By flipping the gender and retaining the same visual signifiers, the series speaks to women’s access to power. Face West premieres on Friday, Feb. 7 with an opening reception and will run through March 1.
The Face West opening reception takes place on Friday, Feb. 7 from 6-9 p.m. The event will offer guests a first look House’s work, along with new pieces from resident artist Christopher St. Leger. Both artists will be in attendance. The event is free and open to the public. Facebook event info can be found here. Friday, Feb. 7 also marks First Fridays Lockhart, a free monthly event that takes place throughout the historic town square.
