“An evening of eight films crafted by cutting-edge digital media artists working in drone, glitch, and industrial ambient sound art.
Drone Cinema is not flyover footage shot with a camera mounted to an unmanned aerial vehicle.
Drone Cinema is mesmerizing, slow, hypnotic, cinematic tapestries woven from the drones of light and sound. The drone has been a part of musical history for thousands of years—the word “drone” deserves to be reclaimed.
With Drone Cinema Film Festival now in its fifth year, this specially curated collection of films
was selected mostly from the last four years’ festivals for their unique approach to transmuting the hum and whir of the artists’ imaginations into moving imagery. Addtionally, there are two brand new films presented here. Previous Drone Cinema Film Festivals have taken place in Seattle, Los Angeles, Latvia, Cambodia and Leiden, Netherlands. The curators of DCFF are expanding their reach by bringing this festival to Austin and beyond.
Live music by: Better Home In The Phantom Zone are Tara Bhattacharya Reed, Brent Fariss & Rick Reed’s ambient drone project, opening the evening’s festival. The trio plan to weave a densely layered ganzfeld of sound comprised of a translucent sonic fogbank created by Rick over which Tara and Brent will ornament with oneiric ragas played on synthesizers.
