Drawings, prototypes, photographs, and objects illustrate the genius of earnest mid-century designers like Gilbert Rohde, Ray & Charles Eames, George Nelson, Alexander Girard, Robert Probst, Steve Frykholm, Bill Stumpf, Don Chadwick, and others working for Miller’s furniture company, which is funding the exhibit! Based curator John Berry’s 2004 book Herman Miller: the Purpose of Design, Good Design: Stories from Herman Miller will be the last show in the AMOA’s downtown space.

Design authority John Berry draws upon his 16 years of experience working closely with designers at Herman Miller, Inc. for this slide lecture. Hear how design and a creative culture were key to Herman Miller’s success and the role of design in today’s economy. Berry, the guest curator of the exhibition, will sign his recent book, Herman Miller: The Purpose of Design.
Lecture: July 28, 2011 | 7–8 pm
Professional bartender David Alan puts Herman Miller home décor in the context of the cold-war cocktail hour, discussing home bartenders, barware, cocktail guides, and why vodka became drink of choice.
