From Conduit Gallery:
“Conduit Gallery is honored to announce a solo exhibition of paintings by Dallas-based Artist Matt Clark.
Matt Clark is an abstract artist whose work is inspired by place: psychological, physical, and spiritual. The passage of time informs this latest series of paintings. With layered color fields and meditative mark making, he has interpreted the diurnal movements of the world that bring awe, beauty, and the sublime into our lives – the sunrises, sunsets, rainy days, full moons, or starry nights that we all experience. Using his recognizable technique of pulling and scraping paint across the canvas, Clark has produced abstracted landscapes of the ephemeral moments that make us feel part of a bigger whole. States the artist, “The genesis of my work lies in how place and experience, both psychical and psychological, informs us of ourselves and our surroundings. My paintings serve as material record of reaction, emotion, perspective and determination.” This creative journey has led him to conceptualize his personal history and experiences into a body of work that offers a dynamic visual experience open to a multitude of interpretations and analyses.
Matt Clark is a Dallas-based artist and Assistant Professor of Practice at University of Texas, Arlington. He has had a creative practice for over two decades. He received his BA in Art History in 1995 from Arizona State University and an MFA in 2002 from Cranbrook University. His work is included in over 20 international corporate collections and has been exhibited throughout the US since 2002. A passionate educator, he focuses on arts entrepreneurship and employing entrepreneurial thinking and strategy to help students achieve their potential. His most recent solo show was at LHUCA, Lubbock, TX.In addition to creating art, Clark has been professor of practice in the art and art history department at The University of Texas at Arlington.
