From Peter Augustus:
“The gallery is delighted to present our second solo exhibition with Hong Kong artist Tobe Kan.
The show’s title – ZYGOMORPHIC CHROMATIC – is a continuation of the artist’s recent show at Hong Kong’s Gallery Exit titled Liminal Interval which explored themes of transition, uncertainty, and impermanence.
The exhibition explores the state of in-betweenness and of transitioning from one state to another, while also emphasizing the displacement of time. Inspired by the liminal moments of dawn and dusk, the exhibition features paintings and installations that capture the elusive and intangible qualities of transition and transformation. By blurring the boundaries between different times of day in her works, Kan creates a sense of liminality, where the viewer is suspended in a space that is neither fully day nor fully night. Zygomorphic Chromatic will feature 5 new acrylic and oil pastel paintings with digital prints* on organza fabric completing the installation (*display only).
Born in Hong Kong, Kan received her BAFA from RMIT University and Hong Kong Art School in 2017. In 2020, her work was featured in “Hong Kong Spotlight by Art Basel” at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, followed in 2021 with a group exhibition, “The Unsung 韌生”, at JC Contemporary inside the Tai Kwun compound. Selected solo exhibitions include: Panacea, Gallery EXIT, Hong Kong (2021); and Peck-eyes Ravens, CL3 Architects Limited, Hong Kong Arts Centre (2018).”
