April 23 - June 10, 2022
From Cerulean Gallery:
“Cerulean Gallery is pleased to announce the opening reception for LOST IN MY MIND on April 23, 2022, from 6 – 8 PM. A portion of the evening’s sales will benefit the CASA Dallas. The exhibition will run through June 10, 2022. This pop art exhibition will highlight brand new works by DFW artist Allison Castillo, Mitch McGee (San Antonio), and Olivia Bonilla (Charleston, SC). Art Market Hamptons 2022 artist, Allison Castillo, is widely known across the DFW Metroplex for her graffiti love series. Castillo will be unveiling her new wallpaper collaboration with the gallery as well as a partnership with Barrington Gifts. The exclusive “Love” bags will be available to purchase during the reception. Influenced by Pop Art legend, Roy Lichtenstein, Mitch McGee’s creativity exists in the space between painting and sculpture. McGee uses pieces of wood, each illustrated, hand cut and stained, or painted to create dimensional pieces. Each painting is filled with thick layers and subtle shadows. Each painting is a labor of love, taking 40 to 50 hours or more to completion. McGee kicked off the 2022 spring season with a successful run at the Affordable Art Fair in New York, and will also be represented by Cerulean at Art Market Hamptons later this summer. LOST IN MY MIND will be Olivia Bonilla’s formal introduction to the state of Texas. Bonilla is a painter and sculptor residing in Charleston, SC. She focuses on unconventional materiality – an inventive approach to color theory within sculpture. Cement transforms into the soft and fluffy resin to irresistible hard candy. “My work plays with confectionary pop art—A twist on personal nostalgia and indulgence. I make references to 80’s and 90’s nostalgia within toy culture, sweets, and color theory. Reflective of a world of over stimulation and re-appropriated ideas.
My work is a metaphor for the never-ending cupcake in a “sugar coated” existence.”
Cerulean is thrilled to launch Bonilla’s newest series of work that includes her highly- sought after “Cowboy Candy” series on a much larger scale.
Cerulean Gallery will be benefitting Dallas CASA at the opening reception for LOST IN MY MIND. Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) trains and supervises community volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children who have been removed from unsafe homes. Supported by professional staff, volunteers gather information and make recommendations to help judges decide the services each child needs to heal from trauma and the best outcome for a safe and permanent home. For many foster children, a CASA volunteer is the only consistent, caring adult during a frightening, uncertain time. Now in its 42nd year, Dallas CASA serves more children than any of the more than 900 CASA programs nationwide. In 2021, 1,539 Dallas CASA volunteers were assigned to advocate for 3,313 children in protective care. CASA depends on the community’s generosity and commitment to make sure every child in need has a CASA volunteer advocate. To learn more, visit dallascasa.org.
