June 26 - July 30, 2021
From Hartgrove Galleries:
“Ron Hartgrove and Henry Sullivan invite you to see the product of their collaboration. They have shared and melded their creative efforts in a unique and fruitful dialogue that began in 2013; Ron’s ideas, images, stories and feelings in 41 paintings, Henry’s in 79 pages of prose and poetry.
“There are no ground rules. We established no boundaries. Each of us creates something, spontaneously and totally independent of the other. We then meet and exchange Ron’ paintings for Henry’s words, usually over coffee and eager for our first glimpse what we have to work with. We meet again, after days or weeks of writing and painting, to share our response to the other’s stimulus. Each series of two paintings and two writings is one stage of our dialogue.
As an example, we attach The Tatooed Lady, Ron’s abstract documentary painting of what Henry fantasized about the horrific Galveston hurricane of 1900 and yes, it was triggered “simply” by a tattoo on a stranger in a dentist’s office (Henry’s story, not the hurricane).”
We look forward to sharing our work with old and new friends and we hope you will join us on Saturday, June 26, 2021 from 6:00 PM until the last story gets told or the wine runs out.
“Our exhibition is divided into two sections, one of Ron’s paintings as stimuli followed by Henry’s written responses; the second Henry’s words as stimuli followed by Ron’s painted responses. The work is displayed in the order in which it was created but the sequence is subtle at best. We aren’t always sure if a quartet followed its predecessor or foretold its successor or both or neither but we know our entire voyage has been a combination of synergy, syzygy, struggle and, especially, fun.””
