From the gallery:
“- A visual survey of color, line, texture and the nuances in between –
The collection of paintings is a survey of my memory and experiences in the rich land of India. The moments captured oscillate between abstraction and perceived reality. Somewhere between the two is the space in which my mind creates. I paint the interplay between my senses and the physical world, from my waking dreams and subconscious mind.
In the autumn of 2018, I went on a spiritual quest to deepen my yoga practice and understand the historical origins of yoga. The journey began with no expectation except to grow and to learn. Immersed for five weeks in a traditional ashram at the base of the Himalayan Mountains, it was an intense period of waking before the sun to meditate, silent walks, silent meals, daily chores, strict schedule and rituals. All of my senses were challenged at all times. The sojourn at the ashram was transformative in so many ways, reawakening within me an internal place of peace and the childlike wonder that resides deep in us all.
This series captures a snapshot, a fleeting moment, a vague memory and the stillness within. The vibrant colors, textures and patterns are traces left from the sensory.”
