From the gallery:
“Conversations with the Void (November 30–December 11) highlights the depth and range of creative practice among students graduating with a B.F.A. from the School of Art and Design at Texas State University. You can find their work displayed ONLINE or at Texas State Galleries, where every exhibiting student has selected one piece from their thesis body of work to be shown. Individually, these works are the culmination of each student’s unique journey. As a whole, the exhibition Conversations with the Void speaks to the optimism and resilience of the students’ arts practices but still anxious states of being.
The COVID-19 pandemic has meant sending our words and our work out into virtual spaces—we can only hope that those ideas and wishes land somewhere, with someone, in the void. This situation has both conceptual and practical consequences for a B.F.A. Thesis Exhibition in 2020. Students cannot gather in-person to celebrate their accomplishment; some will feel comfortable visiting the exhibition, while others will not. Instead of viewing these circumstances as a limitation, this B.F.A. Thesis Exhibition has embraced the uncanniness of this void, as well as technology as both the reason for and solution to feeling betwixt and between.
Join the Conversation on Zoom 24-hours a day (Meeting ID: 839 9326 0862, Passcode: 625869). See the exhibition through stationary camera eyes during open hours—visit with others joining from inside the Galleries or elsewhere!”
