Futurism isn’t just for the past anymore! Coinciding with Italian Futurism, 1909–1944: Reconstructing the Universe, on view at the Guggenheim through September 1st, this play tells the story of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, the movement’s founder.
Says Massimiliano Finazzer Flory, who plays the role of Marinetti, “Futurism celebrated life, of which man is the foremost masterpiece and energy the foremost work of art. But what energy do we see today? We live in a time which unites us all politically in the name of transformation and conformity. And so, opening the windows is no longer enough: we must have the courage to knock down a few doors. Better to disturb the peace than play the compliant chimpanzee.”
This is the final stop in a month-long tour of the U.S. of A Great Futurist Evening.
