From Not For You Gallery:
“ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
Disociación y Facultad is N4U Gallery’s second show featuring paintings by San Antonio native Fernando Lopez. The work will be familiar to those who grew up in San Antonio and provides a sense of wonder and nostalgia. The work combines ideas of mysticism, mythology as well as the familiarity of home and life in the city. The work combines well known symbols from popular media such as Yu-Ghi-Oh and El Valiente from the Loteria game and adds a supernatural element, transforming the work into something new, but familiar, proving that you can find the extraordinary in ordinary spaces. This is Fernando’s second ever solo-show despite having been painting for over 10 years. The show will feature a massive painting outside the doorway titled, “Alebrije” where guests can sit on hand-painted chairs brought from the artist’s home.
ABOUT THE GALLERY:
Not For You Gallery (N4U) opened in May of 2021 by co-owners Edward Perez and Ursula Zavala, who are both artists from southside San Antonio. The space functions as both a studio space for the owners and as a gallery space for monthly exhibitions. N4U welcomes everyone no matter what background you come from and hopes to provide a space where artists are free to speak their truths. The gallery is located at the Upstairs Studios at the iconic Blue Star Arts Complex.”
