Founded by mother-daughter duo Shanna and Skyler Schanen, the festival aims to be a catalyst of creativity, learning, and inspirational cultural experiences. This year’s schedule was shaped by programming director, Mickey Duzdevich, and includes narratives, documentaries, shorts, and music videos.

In a press release, Shanna Schanen stated, “This film festival is about Round Top and the people who are so very passionate about the town and the qualities that make it special. My daughter, Skylar, and I wanted to give the residents of Round Top another point of pride from a cultural standpoint — one that is designed to uplift artists needing a platform to exhibit their creativity and one that combines a host of different themes and styles of filmmaking across four days of exquisite visual art.”

Mr. Duzdevich noted, “In programming the first RTFF, I was inspired by the passion of the residents of Round Top, the town’s robust history, and its indomitable cultural hallmarks. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch a wide array of films, both short and feature-length, that speak to the human condition and that will make them laugh, cry, cheer, and think.”

Through the festival 7 films will be making their world premieres and 17 will be making their Texas premieres. Films showing in the state for the first time include Steven Grayhm’s Sheepdog, John B. Bentiz’s Behind the Lines, and Hannah Summer’s Dolly Parton: Big Hair: Bigger Heart. Notably, Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some!! has been named the RTFF Spirit of Texas film. Cast members Temple Baker and Will Brittain will be in attendance for a Q&A session following the screening. There will also be a block of Texas Shorts highlighting emerging and established filmmakers.

Films will be screened at various venues in the small town of Round Top, which is located between Austin and Houston. See the full schedule and purchase passes via the RTFF website.
