Monday art burns

by Bill Davenport November 2, 2009

Debris is being cleared at the 16th century Castle of Ebelsbach, destroyed by fire in September. Thousands of works of Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica, who recently had a major show at the MFAH, Houston,  burned in a warehouse fire at his brother Cesar Oiticica’s house in Rio de Janiero. The art Washington DC home of political fundraiser Peggy Cooper Cafritz burned last August, desroying what is said to be one of the largest private collections of African-American and African art in the country.
