World Reimagined

“This exhibition explores three different interpretations of the notion of world, as both a physical and metaphysical space. Through the artistic process of observation and recollection, invention and abstraction, each artist produces paintings that speak to the human relationship we have with our environment. Coming out of 2020, the realization of isolation is widespread. Wistfulness and yearning are no longer fleeting emotions, but now a continual part of day- to-day reality. The dependency on the digital realm is exhausting. “World Reimagined” will pose a provocative interchange about subjective memory, individual perspective and collective awareness felt during the pandemic.

Madison Branch’s work feels symbolic and recognizable while also exposing the unknown arena of what may be described as the metaphysical plane (or even the cosmos). The multiple instances of translation that occur during the creation of these images is reminiscent of the interpretative relationships between objects, both human and non-human, reinforcing the idea that every object is altered by its surroundings.

Winter Rusiloski creates large-scale, rich and sublime paintings which have expressive painterly marks reminiscent of wind and motion. She is an avid traveler who uses photography to document the vast and desolate landscape. In addition to capturing her landscape, Rusiloski then directly collages these photographs into her paintings or indirectly uses them as structural inspiration in order to introduce a varied vocabulary, new space, and romantic narrative.

Alexis Serio’s paintings are philosophical and formal investigations about the visual perception of light and color, the personal act of remembering and inventing, and the natural illusiveness of time. Through a series of layers and a process of adding and subtracting paint, she generates the illusion of continually moving shapes (light).”
