January 23 - April 11, 2010
Return, or Rückkehr as it is said in German, includes four large-scale sculpture installations, as well as a recent body of mixed media works by German artist Hans Molzberger. His work explores current political events and address various historical, political, and social situations. Upon visiting Port Arthur, Texas after the devastation of Hurricane Ike in September 2008, Molzberger was inspired to create a piece that explores the aftermath of the storm but also the life and death associated with all major storms. Pleasure Island, a sculpture installation, is the result of Molzberger’s exploration. It consists of a large, hand-made wooden boat filled with fused-glass birds. Don’t miss this show and be on the lookout for Molzberger’s documentary art project, Never Let it Rest! which will be on view at the Houston Holocaust Museum starting April 16.
