Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, tours over sixty of Bill Wittliff’s images from his series Vaquero: Genesis of the Texas Cowboy. Recreated as rich carbon-ink prints, the images are accompanied with bilingual narrative texts taken from his monograph published by The University of Texas Press in 2004. Wittliff’s images of one of the last traditional roundups on the vast Rancho Tule in northern Mexico capture the vanished vaquero tradition.
