A group exhibition featuring work by Silas Breaux, Carlos Villarreal, Kylie Justus
From K Space Contemporary:
“Silas Breaux – Ain’t There No More:
Silas Breaux’s solo exhibition is a collection of personal observations regarding the relationship between the natural world and our built environments. The tension wherever the two realms intersect and how that fraught relationship is documented and remembered with the passage of time are of particular interest. Abstraction is used as a means of distilling this information and these ideas down to their most appealing aspects, much like we do when looking back at the relationship in question.
Carlos Villareal – The Fruits:
‘The Fruits’ investigates the intimate space of a South Texas minority family’s life within the context of this current American moment. In this series of images, Villarreal utilizes the space between cinematic and documentary photography in order to challenge notions of race, privilege and power. Through autobiography, symbolism, lighting, staging, performance and documentation he subtly reveals tensions inherent in the complex condition of the Mexican American experience.
Kylie Justus – Shower Thoughts:
Inspired by the interesting and complex “drawings” that hair creates when stuck to a shower wall, Justus presents a series of prints on acrylic based upon hair samples from friends. “It’s a collection of the things discarded, of women, of community, of people who make art every day and didn’t even suspect it.””
