June 4 - July 3, 2020
Craighead Green Gallery is very proud to introduce Simon Waranch as our featured artist for our ongoing series, " First Launch. First Launch is an opportunity for the gallery to bring to the forefront an artist that we believe is talented in their chosen medium, creates unique and thought provoking work, and most important, the artist displays a deep dedication to the arts. Simon certainly fits the bill for First Launch! Waranch's blown glass sculptures are colorful, playful, detailed and most important, his work is unique to his field. It is also unique to find such an accomplished artist at the young age of 21 years old.
After attending Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Simon has gone on to earn a full scholarship at the prestigious College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. The Museum of Biblical Arts, here in Dallas, is currently exhibiting a solo exhibition of Waranch’s glass sculpture.
Waranch has always had a curiosity for glass that came to life for him at one of his trips to Murano, at the age of 17, Simon had the great fortune of Tagliapietra. Tagliapietra has followed Waranch's work ever since. Lino comments that, "Talent and Passion are very important ingredients in the making of an artist, and Simon has got both. Internationally recognized, Dallas based glass collectors, Barbara Dubois and Vice President of the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass, Dennis Dubois, have also had their eye on Waranch. Dennis comments, Barbara and I have been collecting contemporary glass sculpture for 33 years, and during that time, while I have met the vast majority of the 175 artists in our collection and have seen many of them work, I have never encountered anyone as accomplished as Simon at such a tender age. It is obvious upon viewing this body of work, Simon Waranch has found his calling and his place in the art world.
First Launch: Simon Waranch will be on display from June 4 – July 9. Appointments can be made for private viewing by contacting the gallery by email or by phone.
