From Yard Dog:
“Chicago artist Margie Criner makes abstract, organic-shaped sculptures that house small dioramas, viewable through a peephole. She calls these “sculptures in sculpture.” They are miniature narratives hidden inside abstract sculpture that explore the notion of vacancy in everyday places. That might sound serious, but her work is also seriously engrossing and fun. You’ll want to take a peek inside her latest pieces and get lost in the little worlds she’s created.
The pieces in this show are about music. Margie says, “The music theme isn’t always literal, but background sounds within the space, specific to what I’m processing. Kind of like how there’s music playing at the grocery store, that music is everywhere. Sometimes the work comes out of me while listening to music.”
