From Un Grito Gallery:
“Piñata Thoughts & Conclusions by Avi Avolos features a new body of work where he formally speaks on issues of love, grief, affirmations, protest, and counters Texas history in a humorously playful yet palatable way. The work is presented as mix media paintings and prints with sculpture and of course piñata and plenty of confetti.
Avi Avalos also known as Mr Piñata SA has been a cultural Icon of San Antonio Culture for over a decade. The San Antonio Express-News describes his work as “A hit with just about everyone.” Mr Piñata SA is best described as an ongoing performance art piece embodied by Avi Avalos where he creates and wears a mariachi suit made entirely out of finely cut tissue paper just like a piñata. From crashing parties in Miami, hitting the ski slopes in Colorado, or relaxing under a palapa in Tulum, Mr Piñata with a signature smile has taken the San Antonio culture north and south of the border receiving an extraordinary positive response everywhere he goes representing the vibrant Mexican American / San Antonio art culture.”
