From Fort Works Art:
“Fort Works Art Gallery proudly presents “Terra and Bloom”, a dual exhibition featuring the work of Texas-based artist Kerri Menchaca and Chilean artist Alonsa Guevara. Through a combination of painterly realism, surreal elements, and deeply personal narratives, both artists explore the relationship between nature, transformation, and the cycles of growth and decay.
Kerri Menchaca: The Transience of Landscape
Kerri Menchaca’s paintings serve as a visual meditation on the fleeting beauty of Texas’s natural landscapes. Drawing from her background in Art, Art History, and Geology from the University of Texas at Austin, Menchaca employs a rich, atmospheric approach to capture the light, texture, and energy of the land. Her work reflects an intimate knowledge of ecological impermanence, with vivid brushstrokes and nuanced color palettes evoking the ephemerality of the terrain she cherishes. Each painting is an invitation to pause, observe, and appreciate the fragility of the natural world before it inevitably changes.
Alonsa Guevara: Fruit as Metaphor
Alonsa Guevara, an internationally acclaimed artist from Rancagua, Chile, brings a sense of fantasy and symbolism to the natural world through her lush, hyperrealistic fruit still lifes. Her paintings blur the line between real and imagined, using fruit as a metaphor for fertility, abundance, and personal identity. Guevara’s work is deeply influenced by her experiences growing up in Chile, living in Ecuador, and studying at the New York Academy of Art, where she earned her MFA. Through her detailed, dreamlike compositions, she explores themes of womanhood, cultural identity, and belonging, inviting the viewer into a world that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Live Performance by Wire Nest
To further immerse viewers in the spirit of “Terra and Bloom,” Fort Worth-based music duo Wire Nest will perform during the opening reception. Composed of guitarist Frank Cervantez and engineer John Nuckels, Wire Nest is known for its ambient, experimental soundscapes that blend elements of dub, electronic, and live instrumentation. Their performance will provide an auditory experience that complements the organic and surreal qualities of the exhibition, creating a fully immersive artistic environment.”
