From Brazosport College:
“Undocumented Journeys is an exhibition by Sandra de la Rosa that explores the range of emotions felt by the undocumented community in light of the current vitriolic political climate. Through layered paintings, hidden symbols, and shifting color palettes, de la Rosa captures the uncertainty, resilience, and hope that define the undocumented immigrant experience. The monarch butterfly—long associated with migration and renewal—is embedded within the work, serving as a quiet but obvious presence. de la Rosa uses color to indicate the passage of time, reflecting years spent waiting, fighting, and existing in legal limbo. This exhibition is not just about one journey but a collective experience—one shaped by policies, fear, and the determination to keep moving forward.
Sandra de la Rosa is an artist from San Luis Potosi, Mexico. She earned her Masters of Fine Arts in 2019 at the University of Florida and her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Houston in 2015. Sandra has exhibited her work across Texas, nationally and in Mexico in shows that emphasize the visibility of artists of color, immigration, and border issues. Her work focuses on issues that undocumented immigrants and DACA recipients face. Sandra is a former DACA recipient.”
