March 1 - 29, 2025
From the organizers:
“Take a walk through MFA Candidate Jonathon Garza’s surreal backyard showcasing his thesis exhibition with large scale paintings and intimate ceramics, all tucked inside an immersive instillation. Garza cross-pollinates processes to create large-scale works on canvas and in the round, including layers of acrylics, screenprint ink, and oil paint. Each clay sculpture is hand built. Many are fired in his garden: the flames and smoke painting the unique surfaces. His garden and related paintings, printmaking and ceramic works reflect a thriving ecosystem and familial connection.
Notions of legacy are assisted by knowledge and appreciation gained through intergenerational gardening in his own backyard. This inspires his humble call for people to have a positive impact on the environment. His depicted ecosystem of flora and fauna represent life’s beauty and fragility and the resilience and power of nature.”
