February 14 - April 27, 2025
From AMST:
“The Art Museum of South Texas (AMST) is proud to announce the opening of Home, Love, and Loss, a deeply evocative exhibition that explores the cycles of family life and the universal threads of human connection. This exhibition opens February 14, 2025, and runs through April 27, 2025, with an intimate Member’s Preview on February 13 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Home, Love, and Loss is the third in a series of American art exhibitions created through a multiyear, multi-institutional partnership formed by the Amon Carter Museum of American Art as part of the Art Bridges Cohort Program.
About the Exhibition:
The exhibition brings together more than 66 works from the esteemed collections of Art Bridges, the Amarillo Museum of Art, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, the Art Museum of South Texas, and the Ellen Noël Art Museum.
This powerful collection, comprised of paintings, photographs, works on paper, and video, delves into the milestones and challenges of family and community life—from birth to aging, and from the bonds of joy to the fractures of loss. The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on how we form families and communities; how those relationships are disrupted by adversity, such as illness, poverty, or immigration; and how they are fortified through love, celebration, and resilience.
“Home, Love, and Loss is an exploration from multiple points of view that invites us to reflect on our bonds and relationships that form us into who we are,” says Deborah Fullerton, curator of exhibitions at the Art Museum of South Texas. “This exhibition examines many layers of living, depicting a wide variety of lives and what connects us through human experiences. These selections of art provide ways to connect to a broader appreciation for human connection through compassion, resilience and the power of memories.”
Whether exploring memories of ancestors, the rupture of families, or the joys of chosen companionship, these artworks prompt us to reimagine home and humanity in the context of life’s inevitable transformations.
After the exhibition closes at the Art Museum of South Texas, it will travel to the Amarillo Museum of Art from May 5 to September 14, 2025, and then to the Ellen Noël Art Museum from March 11 to June 16, 2026.
