February 21 - April 25, 2025
From Del Mar College:
“The CAIN National Show is an open-theme, all -media annual exhibition of contemporary artists across the country, curated by a guest juror of national stature. The 59th edition was curated by Alejandro Macias, a Texas-born artist whose work explores cultural identity and migration.
“I am often seeking works that speak to me and help me remember what matters most in my life: family, place, identity, cultural empowerment, and sociopolitical concerns affecting our country today,” says Macias. “On the other hand, I also value works that are playful, mysterious, and aesthetically and technically proficient”
There are two free public events in conjunction with the exhibition. On Thursday, February 20, 11:00AM, Alejandro Macias will deliver a lecture on his artwork, perspectives, and insights as an artist in the Richardson Performance Hall on Del Mar College’s heritage campus. On Friday, February 21, 6-8PM, the exhibition’s opening reception will be at the Cain Memorial Art Gallery. Friday’s reception is free with food catered by Citrus Bistro and a cash bar. At the reception, three prize-winning artworks, selected from this year’s strong and diverse lineup, will be announced. This work then becomes part of Del Mar College’s public art collection.
“We are proud of what the Cain National has done for Del Mar College and the Corpus Christi art community,” says Professor Kerstin Dale, Art Program Coordinator and Gallery Manager. “For six decades, we have built a collection of incredible 2D and 3D art, all of which is available for the public to view.”
“My hope is that any viewer that gets to see this work together leaves the exhibition inspired and altered,” says Macias. “I truly believe that art can heal, transcend, and disseminate across time, culture, race, and religion.”
The 59th Annual CAIN National runs February 21 through April 25. Gallery hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 9AM – 4PM and on Fridays by appointment. For further information, visit the gallery website (delmar.edu/gallery) or contact the Art Program at [email protected] or 361-698-1216.
