February 13 - May 15, 2025
From Moncrief Cancer Institute:
“Moncrief Cancer Institute, in conjunction with the Texas Christian University (TCU) School of Art, presents Stay, curated by Chris Wicker, featuring new paintings by Fort Worth-based artist Victoria Gonzales. Gonzales creates a dreamlike pictorial space in which the viewer is invited to remain while contemplating themes of recollective memory, home, and suspension of time. Drawing from memories living in Boerne, Texas, and her current life in Fort Worth, Gonzales uses vibrant colors and layering of materials to record and highlight everyday yet impactful moments. Fractured imagery of afternoon walks, gathering eggs in chicken coops, and shared familial activities such as baking are paired with digital drawing, thread, and washes of paint. Gonzales’ methods emphasize the nature and significance of recalling a memory through selective pushing and pulling of her subject matter. With this partnership between materials and subject matter, Gonzales evokes complexities surrounding recollection. Commonplace memories met with endless compositions crafted by Gonzales invite audiences to remain and explore abstracted space in Stay.
While the gallery is closed to protect immunocompromised patients, we invite the public to celebrate in person on February 13th from 7:30-8:30 pm at Moncrief Cancer Institute located at 400 W. Magnolia St, Fort Worth, TX. A virtual walkthrough of the exhibition will be made available online.
Moncrief Cancer Institute provides Tarrant County and surrounding communities with the foremost science, resources, and programs to reduce the threat and impact of cancer. The partnership between Moncrief Cancer Institute and the TCU School of Art celebrates the vital relationship between art and medicine and how art positively impacts the patient experience. TCU graduate students are selected to participate as guest curators and then mentored through the exhibition-making process by staff of The Art Galleries at TCU.”
