From Daisha Board Gallery:
“Omar Asprilla is an Afro-Colombian abstract artist whose work draws inspiration from ancient history, myths, religion, philosophy, and the arts. Born in Cali, Colombia, and immigrating to New York at 17, he found his creative voice through transformative encounters with institutions like the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Overcoming adversity, he pursued education in liberal arts and philosophy, later establishing a contemporary art and antiques gallery in Barcelona, Spain, in 2000. Now based in Dallas, Texas, Omar’s work reflects his cultural heritage and intellectual depth, intertwining ancient traditions with contemporary abstraction.
“This exhibition explores the interplay between symmetry and asymmetry, balance and imperfection. While symmetry has long been celebrated as a marker of beauty and cosmic truth, it is asymmetry—the slight imperfections—that make life possible. As referenced in the ancient Shabaka Stone, it was an infinitesimal imbalance between matter and antimatter that ensured the survival of the universe, birthing galaxies, stars, and all forms of life.
Through these works, we honor the sacred principles of geometry while embracing the imperfections that shape and define existence. Together, symmetry and asymmetry tell the story of creation—a dynamic dance of order and chaos, harmony and vitality, the divine and the human.””
