From Mitochondria Gallery:
“Mitochondria Gallery, a strong supporter of artists from Africa and its diaspora, is excited to announce its forthcoming group exhibition, “Echoes of Transformation,” showcasing fresh paintings and sculptures by six artists from North America and Africa. This exhibition is on view from September 21st through October 26th, 2024.
In the rich tapestry of contemporary art, “Echoes of Transformation” emerges as an exploration of sociocultural progression, uniting six remarkable artists. This group exhibition delves into the multifaceted themes of enlightenment, mental care, social structures, and migration, each artist offering a unique perspective through their chosen medium of expression. This exhibition features new works from Sesse Elangwe, Matthew Eguavoen, Okoye Chukwuemeka John, Samuel Nnorom, Dusabe King Christian, and Demetrius Wilson.
Each piece serves as a reflection of the ongoing evolution within societies, both personal and collective. The exhibition highlights the shared human experience amidst diverse cultural landscapes. In their distinctive styles and approaches, the artists invite viewers to embark on a journey through their interpretations of transformation.
Sesse Elangwe (San Antonio, TX) encourages his audience to pursue their best selves, while Matthew Eguavoen (Lagos, Nigeria) presents works that challenge the dialogue around mental wellness. Samuel Nnorom (Nsuka, Nigeria) continues to explore the intersection of consumerism and migration, and Dusabe Christian King (Kigali, Rwanda) delves deeper into themes of memory preservation and nostalgia. Demetrius Wilson (New York, NY) takes a forward-looking approach, examining the collapse of civilization, and Okoye Chuckwemeka John (Calabar, Nigeria) captures the emotions tied to daily uncertainties. “
