From Lanecia Rouse Tinsley Gallery:
“Ecologies explores the visual language of doorways, arches, mirrors, holes, mountains, appendages, cells, columns and windows. The forms speak with distinct materiality and color to communicate various sources of inspiration. The process begins through unlikely sources such as gleaning construction sites, watching a climate change report, or driving by Houston architecture that seems out of place. Sketches of interesting shapes and forms along with found objects are incubated and grown over time through material exploration and uninhibited play. As this visual language continues to evolve and manifest into something tangible, it requires a connection to the biological world: skin. Pastel, fluorescent, enameled, patinated or glowing, the skin on these forms become a history of moments spent looking, looking closer, finding and filtering. The sculptures serve as an autobiographical record, mirroring the many places visited and visual oddities absorbed from the isolation of abandoned spaces to the intimacy of my childhood home in Arizona. These entities dwell within the LRT space, forming a pieced together ecosystem imbued with memory.”
