July 15 - August 23, 2024
From the organizers:
“The Adolphus Tower Gallery, a collaboration between the Dallas College Gallery Program, FGIII, and Hoque Global, presents a solo exhibit by Dr. Teresa L. Jackson, entitled “to Bear Witness.” Dr. Jackson is a wonderful example of a returning student, one who has already made accomplishments in the professional world but chose to return to her studies to gain new knowledge and build upon her education. She began in the fields of psychology and art therapy, and with this background, in 2017 began to pursue a career as a professional artist.
She went on to study in the photography program at the Mountain View Campus of Dallas College, and was included in the group photography show, “A Decisive Vision: New Perspectives from Dallas College” at The Adolphus Tower Gallery earlier this year. Most recently, Dr. Jackson was recognized with her first solo exhibition, “to Bear Witness,” at the South Dallas Cultural Center, which featured the black and white photography work which will be seen in this current exhibit.
Of the body of work which comprises this exhibition, John Spriggins, General Manager of the South Dallas Cultural Center says, “Dr. Teresa L. Jackson adeptly captures the very essence and humanity of her subjects, showcasing a remarkable blend of skill and sensitivity. Her portrayal of the black male figure is marked by a profound thoughtfulness and care, revealing her acute understanding of both the individual and the collective spirit.”
The artist speaks of this project saying, “I present Black men and boys nuanced and diverse experiences through a lens aimed at challenging stereotypes and highlighting their resilience. The subjects’ complex emotions, aspirations, and truth greet each viewer, revealing genuine moments of joy, leadership, and connections to the community, family, friends, and country.”
Join us as we celebrate the photography of Dr. Teresa L. Jackson, an accomplished member of our community as well as student of Dallas College.”
