April 27 - May 12, 2024
From 500X:
“Thin Veils” is a solo exhibition by Dallas-based artist, Steven Hector Gonzalez that invites viewers to explore the intersections of the spiritual and the temporal. Through a carefully curated collection of objects and digital media, the exhibition acts as a series of spiritual waypoints, guiding the viewer on a contemplative journey of self-discovery and introspection. At the heart of the exhibition are “altars”, meticulously crafted and arranged to focus the artist’s spiritual intentions and energy. These altars serve as tangible conduits to the divine, offering viewers a gateway to the sacred. Each altar is a unique expression of spirituality, drawing on a rich tapestry of symbolism to create a deeply personal and immersive experience. Complementing the altars are photographic images, capturing fleeting moments frozen in time. These images act as visual echoes, resonating with personal narratives and memories. As viewers journey through the exhibition, they are invited to reflect on their own experiences, creating a dialogue between the past, the present, and the intentions set for the future. This body of work is not just about looking inward but also about connecting with something greater than ourselves, beyond our plane of existence. “Thin Veils” offers viewers a space for quiet meditation and self-reflection, inviting them to explore the subtle boundaries that separate the physical from the spiritual, the past from the present, and the self from the divine.
