January 25 - February 22, 2024
From LSC-CyFair:
“Immerse yourself in local artist Jack Potts’ world coping with total loss and new-found hope in the aftermath of the infamous Winter Street Studios fire with his exhibition “Empty” on display at Lone Star College-CyFair Jan. 25-Feb. 22.
Potts’ studio filled with a professional lifetime of work and memories went up in flames Dec. 20, 2022. This fire, devastating nearly 100 artists also housed in the Sawyer Yards complex, was found not only to be arson set in an effort to cover theft, but committed by his friend struggling with mental health issues.
As the dust and ashes settled and reality took hold, the shock, loss and grief set in for this talented photographer. However, the kindness of others helped Potts start over and he was able to see beauty around him again.
“Empty” shares his journey from “confusion and dizzying emotions” to “capturing a renewed devotion and strength.” His story is told through video and photography in three collections – Disoriented, Recontextualize and Grace – within this exhibition at LSC-CyFair’s Bosque Gallery.
Meet Potts in person and learn more about the artistry of this photographer at the 6:30 p.m. opening reception Jan. 25, which includes live music and refreshments, as well as at the upcoming 1:30 p.m. Library Artist Talk Feb. 7.
