From Rice University:
“On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the first publication of Jorge Luis Borges, Fervor de Buenos Aires, Casa Cultural de las Americas pays tribute to the great universal writer at Rice University, Houston, Texas.
This tribute includes the presentation and donation to the Houston Public Library, of a 2.5-foot bust of Borges, cast in bronze and made by the renowned Argentine sculptor Carlos Benavídez.
Likewise, scale replicas of that bust and intervened by twenty selected artists from Texas will be exhibited and offered for sale during the day of the event. These three-dimensional, exclusive collectible works, made from the figure of Borges, will reflect the view of our contemporary artists on the infinite Borgean universe, creating an intimate bond between literature and visual arts.
“Borges and Texas” will also feature an unmissable panel by local and international experts in the writer’s work and ideas: Gwendolyn Diaz-Ridgeway, Ph.D., Writer and Professor Emerita at St. Mary University; Daniel Bonevac, Ph.D., American Philosopher and Professor at the University of Texas at Austin; Nicolas Shumway, Professor at Rice University and Former Dean of the School of Humanities; and Fernando Flores, Sociologist, Journalist, Writer, and Vice-President of the Jorge Luis Borges International Foundation in Buenos Aires.”
